This year’s European Water Technology Week (EWTW) 2024 attracted more than 800 participants from 33 countries for a congress filled with knowledge sharing, networking, and innovation in the water technology sector. As part of the event, the Wetsus Congress offered insights into groundbreaking research and developments.
On Monday, the annual Marcel Mulder Award was presented to Nouran Bahgat (Wetsus/Delft University of technology) for her exceptional contributions to the Phosphate Recovery theme. Her research pushed technological processes forward, embodying the spirit of Professor Mulder, whose innovative vision remains alive through this award. Professor Karel Keesman, emeritus professor Wageningen University, was honored for his outstanding impact on science and mentorship with a special prize. With over 15 years of connection to Wetsus, Karel Keesman has helped guide numerous PhD candidates, providing vital support in mathematics, data analysis, and model predictions.
The WIS Award 2024 has been won by BubbleFlush, a concept that sustainably cleans toilets using imploding bubbles. The innovation received both the public and jury prizes during the final of the competition. The WIS Award celebrates the best innovation in water technology. The winning technique was developed by the company TranZero, based in Zoetermeer. The initiative is led by entrepreneurs Dennis Luiten and Hidde Reitsma.
On the final day, an exclusive local tour was offered, to explore water technology hotspots in the region, including a visit to WaterCampus Leeuwarden.
