The range of financing possibilities available to SMEs and start-ups is becoming increasingly diverse. In addition to banks, there are all kinds of alternatives, giving entrepreneurs more options, but at the same time often resulting in unclear situations for entrepreneurs. To facilitate the entrepreneurs, the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs initiated the Financing Tables. One of these finance tables is organized by WaterCampus Leeuwarden and the province of Fryslân. At this table we connect entrepreneurs with the right combination of financing. More information can be found here.
For young start-ups, NEW offers initial financing, typically in the form of convertible loans intended to become investor-ready. The fund is part of the NEW-ttt project and intended for starters who have not yet developed any commercial activities. The starters must be in a proof of concept phase and ready to make the step towards a market-ready product.

Both the Water Alliance and the Centre of Expertise Water Technology have been participating in the European Water Test Network project since the summer of 2018. The aims to create a European network of test facilities with different water types where start-ups and SMEs from Northwest Europe can test, demonstrate and develop their innovations for the water sector. In this way, the project wants to stimulate new innovations and accelerate the market introduction. Within the project companies are supported in accelerating the introduction of their water technologies to the market. In addition to assistance with the validation and verification of products, this support also consists of financing. The project makes vouchers available up to € 50,000 for testing products at the test facilities.
